Outlook 2000

Set up Email Alerts for Outlook 2000.

Make sure you have your SMTP server number handy. If you do not, follow these instructions.

From the Tools menu, select Services:

From the Services window, click Add:

From the Add Service to Profile Window:

  • Select Internet Email.
  • Click OK.

From the Properties window, type:

  • The name of the email account, enter Birch Voicemail.
  • Name, enter your name.
  • Organization, enter your company.
  • E-mail address, enter your current e-mail address.
  • Reply address, enter your current e-mail address.
  • Click OK.

On the Servers tab:

  • Select the Servers tab.
  • Incoming mail (POP3) -  enter voicemail.birch.com
  • Outgoing mail (SMTP),  if your email address ends in @birch.net, enter smtp.birch.net. If it ends in anything else, enter the outgoing mail server of your current e-mail service. If you do not have that handy, follow these instructions.
  • Account Name, enter your 10-digit main mailbox number without dashes or spaces.
  • Password, enter your voicemail password.
  • Select the Remember password checkbox.
  • Click OK.

On the Connections tab, click the radio button for your preferred connection method. Typically, if you have broadband Internet service select Connect using my local area network (LAN). If you have dial-up Internet service select Connect using my phone line.

On the Advanced tab:

  • Type 25 for Outgoing mail (SMTP)
  • Type 4000 for Incoming mail (POP3)
  • Click the checkbox for Leave a copy of messages on the server
  • Click the checkbox for remove from the server after
  • Set to 2 days (max.)
  • Click OK

Outlook must now be closed, and re-opened in order for the profile to become active:

Once re-opened, from the Tools menu, select Options:

From the preferences tab, select the Internet E-mail tab:

On the Internet Email tab:

  • Click the checkbox for Check my local network connections for new email every
  • Set to 5 minutes
  • Click OK

  Email Alert has been successfully set up.
